Written by: Stefanie Peacock- Women's Ministry Leader She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. —Proverbs 31:20 For the past several years, many sisters have delivered hot, nutritious meals to the elderly who are disabled and home-bound here in Spokane. But there is something about displaying the heart of Jesus when you tread out into snow filled streets and neighborhoods to make sure these elderly have a hot meal for the day. Recently Spokane has been blanketed with several feet of snow. It is hard to explain the experience of driving on the road conditions without using the word "pothole" or better yet "sinkhole" but they are not the usual potholes we all know of. These are made of snow and ice and they create "adventurous" driving conditions. Yet so many of the sisters have been relentless in getting through these neighborhoods to take care of those in need.
In Proverbs 31:20, God describes His thoughts on being a woman of noble character as being one who "opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." Truly, we see this heart displayed by the sisters who drive and walk through the neighborhoods to go door to door, giving a warm smile and a hot meal to many elderly people. Many of whom welcome the company more than the meal. Proverbs 22:9 explains the heart of how we feel when we deliver each meal. It reads- "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor." Above is a picture of one our friends that we deliver to. Her smile is a pure joy to encounter as she approaches the door with a huge "Thank You very much" every time we come to the door. Many of them are very surprised that we would be out in the weather and driving conditions in order to bring them a meal, they are even more encouraged. And yet as this scripture says, we are the ones who feel blessed and encouraged to be able to give and encourage those in need. We want to say thank you to all of you in the Spokane Christian Church who over the past several years and especially those who have tread through tough driving conditions in order to take care of others. We are very proud of you and know that God is smiling upon you for the praise you have brought to Him through your service.
